The World Bank is one of the most established debt issuers in the capital markets. During 60 years of international borrowings, the World Bank has continuously developed innovative products, opened up new markets for issuance, and built a broad investor base around the world. This track record, combined with the name recognition, has allowed the World Bank to access the markets at any time and in the borrowing volumes needed to support the World Bank's development goals.
The World Bank´s annual funding volume peaked in fiscal year 1998 with US$28 billion of new bond issuance, to respond to the global financial crisis and the resulting increased lending requirements. At the present time, Annual bond issuance is currently between US$15 and US$20 billion.
